The budget cuts passed by the United States House of Representatives will significantly harm children and families. Specifically in North Dakota:

  • 565 young children will be removed from their Head Start program
  • Special needs children would lose $2.9 million in education programs serving them
  • 209,000 of North Dakota’s college students would face cuts in their Pell Grants, causing many to leave college
  • Pregnant women would be denied health care through the Maternal and Child Health block grant
  • Programs to help children, youth, and parents struggling with substance abuse and mental health issues would be slashed by $2,510,000
  • Doors to 21st Century Community Learning Centers would close to hundreds of North Dakota’s children and youth
